How far is Atherton Tablelands from Cairns?
The Atherton Tablelands is a diverse region located approximately 90 kilometres south-west of Cairns. It is an expansive area, covering around 65,000 square kilometres, and is home to many breathtaking natural landmarks, gorgeous scenery, and an abundance of native Australian wildlife.
So many pristine waterfalls to explore
There are hundreds of waterfalls located within the Atherton Tablelands region that are waiting for you to explore. The tropical climate and the mountainous terrain make it the perfect place for waterfalls to occur. Be sure to check out Millstream Falls, Tully Gorge, Millaa Millaa waterfall, Zillie Falls, and Ravenshoe waterfalls, just to name a few.
Rainforest wildlife
Head out on an adventure into the rainforest of the Atherton Tablelands to check out some interesting Australian native animals in the wild. Join a tour and explore the World Heritage-listed Tropics of Queensland while keeping an eye out for some friendly creatures. Kangaroos, possums, platypus, lizards, and maybe even some creepy crawlies like snakes and spiders crawling in the trees of the forest.
Tully River white water rafting
If you love an adventure, you cannot miss out on white water rafting down the Tully Gorge. Take a guided tour with a trained instructor where you will make your way through some unbelievable grade 2-3 rapids in a raft. You will tackle the rapids along 6 kilometres of river, while also admiring the dense forest of the Atherton Tablelands that surrounds you. This is definitely the adventure of a lifetime that you cannot miss out on!
Unique local markets
There are a number of local produce markets that are held throughout the Atherton Ranges. The Yungaburra Farmers Market is the oldest, largest, and most well know market in the region, it is held on the fourth Saturday of every month. Here you can feast on some delicious local produce, check out some of the many food trucks, buy a locally crafted souvenir, or just wander around admiring the unique charm of the market.
Excellent coffee
The Atherton Tablelands is one of Australia’s premier coffee growing regions. There are several plantations in the area that produce some high quality, delicious coffee beans. You can check out the Skybury Plantation to get an insight into the craft of coffee growing, where you will see the process of planting, processing, and the final creation of a delicious Arabica coffee, which of course you will be able to taste test, while admiring where it has just come from!
